Question about nitrous
I am about to buy a ZEX nitrous kit from my friend. It's the universal one that works with '94-98 Mustangs. I have a few questions before I buy tho.
1) Is this thing safe or not? Am I going to be putting in allot of wrench time after awhile with this thing? I've heard that a 75 shot will be ok for the 5.0, but no higher. Is this true? 2) Is there any precautionary items I should buy too? I've heard of nitrous destroying engines due to lean conditions. Why does this happen? How can I prevent this? 3) I run a 14.5 right now with small bolt-ons. What will I see with a 55 or 75 shot? 4) Is $275 a good price for a used kit with 6 jets and a bottle pressure guage? thanks guys. ------------------ Blueneonman - '95 5.0L Mustang GT Convertible | K&N Custom Cold Air Intake | FMS 9mm Wires | Hollow Cats | Flowmaster 2 Chambers | BBK Subframes | 6-pt Rollcage | King Cobra Clutch | FMS Adjustable Clutch Cable | B&M Short Throw | Coolest Neon Lighting on a Mustang EVER! Is it safe? YES, if your engine is in good shape then it will be fine.
It is always safer to start conservitive say with a 75 shot make a pass and then check all of your plugs for small silver or black specks on the porcelain. Thats "detonation" Very bad when running nitrous. You should install at least a 155lph fuel pump. Lean conditions occur when not enough fuel pumps into the cylinder during combustion causing detonation. You should also retard your timing and add some octane boost.10 deg is fine for 75-100 shot. With a 75 shot you will be looking at about 13.7s. Price just goes with the condition of the kit.If it's in good shape and comes with everything it's well worth the money. You should be able to run 125 shot with no problems on your motor given it's in good condition.Good Luck ------------------ 90 LX,full exhaust,Stage 2 Trick Flow heads,4.10s,southside uppers & lowers,Scorpion 1.7 rollers,GT 40 upper & lower,Under drives,30lb inj,B-303,Pro 5.0 shifter,70mm TB,75mm mass air,msd 6al,BBK cold air,adj fuel reg.,190lph,100lph inline, Hoosier D.O.T. slicks.150 shot NOS |

The kit is very easy to install, I just installed mine last week, I am running a 100 shot at 14 degrees of timing with no detonation, my only advice is to regap your plugs, I couldn't get the nitrous to run until I gapped my plugs to about .034. I am running a 100 shot on mine, very impressive.I would upgrade atleast your fuel pump, but technically they say you don't have to.
