What is the BEST Muffler?
Im looking for the best flowing quietest muffler for my new 93lx. The 89 is already loud, so I'm going quiet with this one.
Anyone have any suggestions? Also the best flowing 2.5" cat. Skyler |

I already knew someone would *****. Because I already have 1 very loud car, and I want something different.
Thats why. |
I've heard good things about dynomax ultraflo welds...I'm looking for a quiet hi flow muffler as well...I just can't afford any yet. I was thinking about replacing the cam first...leaning towards a "b" or the "e", but that's another thread.

I was just teasing you... sorry.
|
No problem. But I'm still looking for a quiet muffler :)

i have dynomax ultra flows and they are nice and quiet even with the offroad h-pipe and the long tubes. The onlything that sucks is u can totally hear the car camming. When i get on the car it gets pretty loud though

Steeda used to make a superquiet sleeper muffler, not sure if they still do though...

my bad caming, the lopy idle

i have a set of dynomax racing mufflers for tracks that have noise limits not sure of the part # or proper name but they flow grat and sound stock (Which I like) and to lazzy to go out and look

Couple issues ago 5.0 Mustang had a test with many different mufflers with their dyno numbers and decible levels. If my memory serves me correct the best flowing and quiestest muffler was the Bassani Real Street. I think Borla's and Magnaflow's also have a somewhat quieter tone. ~Brian

Hey there the best quiet mufflers are Flowmasters 40 series 2 chamber but make sure you get delta force there a little quiter then the regular and every one i installed go about 5 more horse then the regular ones. I work at a mustang shop and i have tried every muffler, hooker, dynomax, gibson, monza, borla, steeda, Flowtech, you name ive heard it, the only thing is is a mustang once you get on it its gonna open up and get a little loud no matter what muffler you use but the the one i listed is the best ive heard.

Edelbrock makes a nice stainless straight-through design muffler (Performer RPM, I think) that's pretty quiet and has a nice tone to it.

I have the Flowmasters and I would not recommend them to anyone who wants a quiet muffler. I've had the cops called on me countless times for loud exhaust. Tomorrow I'll try scan that 5.0 Mustang article. That should really help you decide. ~Brian

eeH1025, WTF are GT-40X twisted wedge heads? Also 40 series flowmasters are NOT quiet.
|
Hey there Gt-40X is one of the best heads you can buy it is very hard to get them in stock but you can get them at alot of mustang place,, JEGS,SUMMIT,EXCESSIVE motorsport, theres other places too, Sorry but there are really called GT-40X turbo Swirl, my bad,i will make the corretion, i got them from summit. 40 series delta flow are your more quiter muffler i dont mean regular 40 series either they are alot loudier.

Every Flowmaster I have heard has been deep and plain loud, period. ~Brian

If you want quiet go with a x-pipe and dynamax mufflers. You cant even here my 5.0 going down the track. My cobra with the stock exhaust is louder than my 5.0.

I have Flowtech Stinger mufflers on my GT and they are quiter with an offroad-H pipe than brand new mustangs bone stock. They sound really deep and throaty when you get on the pedal, but at the same time it's not "loud". They're basically just a regular "turbo" muffler design with 3 perforated cores, and they're fairly heavy for a muffler, but i can see why because there's quite a bit of sound dampening. The only time people notice the sound of my car is when i'm accelerating or they're standing behind it. I imagine that with catalytic converters, those mufflers would be EXTREMELY quiet. The best part of them is although you hear the 2000rpm drone, you don't FEEL it and it's not loud enough to disrupt a conversation or overcome the radio. I'd recommend this muffler for exactly what you're asking for, it's about as loud as Dynomax Super turbos on a stock 5.0L with stock 4-cat H-pipe.
For someone looking for a ripping, screaming sound these mufflers are definately NOT what they'd be looking for. |
Think I'll give those dynamax a try.
Skyler |
There is a site called mustangexhaust.com that has many sound clips. You might want to try browsing through some of them. The Dynomax clips are fairly quiet in comparison to some of the others.
|
Sorry, but you really cant tell anything about loudness when you listen to those clips. They should give a decible figure for a given rpm for each, I have the Dynomax super turbos with two gutted cats and two removed. My car is very loud and I wanna fix that, but I still kinda like it, really impresses the clowns with fart cans on 4 cyl. cars. They dont wanna race, and I wouldnt anyway. Quiet exhaust is the mature way to go though. "Walk softly and carry a big stick".
|
I have Dynamax Super Turbo's on my stock 5.0 and they sounds very quite. Now im sure when im lining up for a race and i get on it they can hear me but all mustangs are pretty much that way. As for just cruising around town and hiway driving. they are slightly heard below 3K rpms and if you want quite i would suggest these.
