Question Now that it's almost winter...

Alright, fellow 'Stangers (especially those of us in the 'Salt Belt' that the Midwest is), it's that time of year again, and today being Thanksgiving you KNOW it's here. Time to bring out your winter beasts!!! I've already found the car I'll be driving to a rusty death: a 1984 Mazda 626. I'm getting it for $200, and it just needs some carb work. The 'Notch is getting put up for now (sleep tight, baby!), and the 4-banger 'Stang is getting its heart transplanted to a friend's Ranger in desperate need of an engine.

My question to all of you is, what the heck are you guys driving this winter? Dan, I already know what YOU have!

I've decided not to buy another car. My wife and I work pretty much the same shift and since she doesn't like driving in the winter and I won't have a winter car we'll be car pooling. It's a Dodge Neon. The only bad thing is it's Purple. You wouldn't believe the looks I get in that d@mn thing.

I'm still looking for my beater. I've been lucky thus far (knock on wood) because we haven't had any snow yet...so the stang has been out. I guess I should start really looking. Anyone have a car for under $500 that will last about 4 months??

I'm looking at a 20th Anniversary convertible 5.0. It will be rough on me when it get's down into the 50's, but I think I can handle it. I know I have a jacket around here somewhere. Thanks for the concern!!!

Take care,
-Chris

You guys need to come up north for a REAL winter. It's been mild so far. Highs in the 50's, lows in the 30's. Just wait till winter REALLY gets here. then we'll have highs in the 30's and lows in the 'teens!!

Stang Crazy, don't let these coastal guys get to ya. I find comfort in knowing how bad they drive in the snow when they do get it. I've seen Florida people driving down the highway here in the winter and hit a patch of snow and lay on their brakes. It's a riot

2fastlx-
ToucheŽ

Tireburner-
I have no sympathy for you at all. I lived in northern New Jersey for 11 years. I know winter. I also know I didn't particularly like it for more than a few hours at a time, so it is here that I now reside. I am very proud to say that I live where I do because I want to, not because I have to.

Besides, we're getting rain tomorrow night, and it's supposed to be cold enough to drop snow in the local mountains (4000' snow level). BUT, it's still in the 70's at sea level, and there are 8' to 10' swells coming in from the north!!! SURFING tomorrow!!!

C-Ya.

Take care,
-Chris

It's my firsst winter in PA. I dread it! I miss TX already.
When I'm not doing ice doughnuts in the middle of the road in the stang, I'll be in a 1991 Buick LeSabre. It's not tooo bad. yet...

I'll trade ya!

Mine's not quite that cool, but who knows. I do have a 383 stroker sitting in a '65 Nova wagon that would look good in there. Too bad mines the big grandma looking 4 door version. All it needs is a box of kleenex on the dash and one of those beaded seat covers!

Hmmmm.... People from PA and NY and NJ talking about winter. Well, I suppose they kinda know about it.

Here in Minnesota it's beginning to shape up like the Mustang GT will pull winter duty once again. I'm not absolutely positive, but it's looking that way. My FZR600 is tying up too much cash right now, lol. It's winter (I guess ) and I'm buying stuff for a motorcycle. Guess I can't complain about 50's and 60's when it should be 20's and 30's with snow?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, winter car, how about a '66 mustang, with a new heater core. But if push-gets-to-shove I still got my '89 Bronco, 10 miles to the gallon baby, and proud of it. The funny part is the tires are so bad, that I did a 180 on the first rain, a month ago. Talk about slick(and fun, ever spun the tires in a big truck at 75 mph while only going 10???) I would have new tires on it, but have u ever tried to restore a '66 mustang, fix up a '79 mustang, pay for the gas for all('79 doesn't run yet) and pay $180 a month for insurence 215 a month car payment, on a $1200 monthly income(before taxes). Trust me, it's no fun.

Winter beater for now is a 95 S-10 but I'm thinking about getting a full-size truck. No need for it yet though. It's shaping up to be the warmest November on record in Minnesota, 50's and 60's all month. Give it 2 weeks and it'll be 10 below w/ 3 feet of snow. If I could only find a job where I could drive the snowmobile to work, life would be perfect.
