What To Do To Prepare For Emissions Testing????

I am going ot get my 88 gt emissions tested this week hopefully, so i need to prepare for it.

I am going to put in 4 Quarts of 10w-30 oil, new plugs(what should i set them to???), 94octane gas, menthol hydrate(somethin like that) in the gass.

what else can i do to help it pass?

thanks

yup, change you oil, put in new plugs, cap/rotor/wires if you think you need em. run whatever gas you normally do (i don't know about those additives, i'm just talkin octane). can you pass without mufflers? you'll find out.... make sure your cats are heated up before you go in (drive around for 5 minutes, and then pull right in, you don't want to wait in line, they'll cool off)

we are going to drive it there in 1st gear (30mph, 4000rpm) down the backroads, it is like 15min away, so they will have plenty of heat.

Your tail-pipes have to exit from under the car so they can access the emissions from your car for test purposes. If they cannot get to the pipes cause they car under the car then they will not test it.

Without a smog pump you are going to fail miserably. Your cats need oxygen for them to work well, especially the stock cats.

Give it a shot, though. Run 87 octane and make sure your timing is at the stock 10 degrees. Make sure you have brand new O2 sensors that work in addition to all the basic tune up stuff already mentioned. Gap should be at .052-.054".

I agree with jimberg about not having the smog pump hooked up. I would still give it a try though.

You should add mufflers and tail pipes or they will not test as said before and I strongly suggest not driving that far in 1st gear, that is really hard on the motor and tranny. If you have a adjustable FPR you can try to lean it out a little as well.

Set gap on Autolite 25's to .053"

ya, don't drive in first gear. driving normally for 10 minutes will warm it up just fine, the cats really only take a minute to warm up. I hadn't noticed that you didn't have the smog pump, without it, you absolutely cannot pass. why'd you take it off? it takes no power to run, and not having it just makes your cats not work AND clogs them.

Back here in IL if you fail you get another chance to take the tests. But once you fail once they get on your case. I would opt for a $20 test pass which will not go on the record but if you pass then you just give them your form and have them immediately run it again or go back in line. If change the owners on your car then you could get away without taking them....

the smog pump was seised, so i got a short belt to buypass it, we made tailpipes that exit before the rear wheel, using the old exhaust of an lx, gap is .046.

Did you use Mohawk 94 octane? Ethanol blends rock when it comes to emissions testing time http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif
