Hmm...kind of unique...but I would say like a few marbles in a coffee can spinning around...but not that loud.

Ping!

Well, I'm tempted to say that you'll know it when you hear it as it's not a sound you would normally hear from your engine.

It should be most noticable when accelerating, especially under a load (up a hill - or in fifth gear at less than 45 mph).

Sounds like a rattle - a bit like a diesel engine - although it may be faint so you need to test for pinging (detonation) on a quiet road, no radio on, windows open.

Causes are many including failing EGR, running too hot, wrong plugs, too much timing and so on. The results from long-term or severe detonation are not good. If you have detonation you need to find the cause and do whatever it takes to fix the problem and eliminate the pinging, ASAP.

You know those big 3 gallon coffee makers you see at large meetings and events? The aluminum ones? Well, take one of them, fill it with about 100 unpopped pop corn kernals, and stick it into a paint mixer/shaker.

That's what it sounds like.

Take care,

ah mofo

Pinging is what i have in my car from time to time from the lack of fuel then.

I couldnt figure it out, oh damn that is harsh.

I posted earlier about the lack of fuel to air ratio i have. I bought a new pump and am working on adjusting my fuel pressure regulator for my 95 gt 5.0. It only happens when i am under WOT.

Hoping that the new pump fuel pressure regulator were the right way to go in getting rid of the 18 to 1 air/fuel ratio.

Man im hurting now that i found out i have been pinging.

kinda hard to describe, but well known...

Yeah, pretty much like Mr 5 0 described it. You'll most likely experience it on a burning hot day, while going up hill with low octane gasoline in your car. It's prettty much a knocking sound coming from the engine.

Hey, what does water taste like?? :D
