Post ported GT40's, stock cam, 1.7rr's - worth it?

thinking serious about either heads (don't have the cash for the whole deal, cam, lifters, pushrods, roller rockers, etc) or intake/tb/maf combo. Will it be worth installing the ported GT40 irons with my stock 95 cam and maybe some 1.7rr's? or skip it now, and do the intake/tb/maf until I can get heads and a cam?

Get the heads! I had stock GT-40s on my car with headers,4.10 gear, 1.7's and factory intake and cam and it ran a 12.9@104, then I added the intake and cam and the rear end broke on the first pass so... The heads made a big differance over the E7's that were on there.

Save your cash and get a set of aluminum heads. GT40's are better than E7's but just take a look at flow #'s between them and a set of AFR's or Twisted Wedges. They also weigh a LOT less which we heavy SN95's need. You can buy the little foo foo **** like TB and MAF later.

Yes save your money. GT-40 heads suck, especially ported ones. Trust me. Go with an aluminum head.

I'd go the AFR or TFS aluminum route. Don't worry about changing the cam yet, the stock cam will get you deep into the 12's.....and don't bother w/ the intake/tb/maf until you do the heads.

Thats funny, they really suck huh? Thats just why my car with them, out ran most cars with their expensive Alum. heads. GT-40 heads are a big improvement over factory heads, and for the price, it's just not worth the extra money for the little to none improvement. If you know what your doing, a good set of ported GT-40's will run with the best of them.

I dare you to do a dyno test from ported GT-40s against Twisted Wedge or AFR 165 heads. Then you'll how bad they suck.

Oh yeah ported GT-40's cause problems on blown cars. They don't give a consistent burn and some temperatures.

All, I'm saying is for the money you can't beat them. I had nothing but good results with mine. I only got one pass and it ran a 12.7 and the rearend broke. I think if I had it tuned and got some more runs in it would run an easy 12.2 or so, and half the people I see with high dollar motors aren't even running that. I know a few running around the same with GT-40's so they can't be all that bad.

To buy Gt40's and then port them is a waste.....you'd be spending more $$$ than getting the TFS or AFR's out of the box anyway, just to get close to the same flow #'s. Just my .02
