![]() dexron/mercon is ford recomendation, I use atf type-f, i was told it doesnt create as much heat, and no problems so far.
you will need some kind of syphon, the bottom plug is for draining, and the top is where you add the fluid, its hard to get too, and i doubt you can do it without a syphon.

![]() Type F will wear it out faster. it doesn't have the lubricants Dexron does. Don't use F type.
Take care, -Chris

![]() pkrwd, Really dont want to flame this simple subject, you might be right about that, but the guy that sold me my t-5 told me to use type-f ONLY, and he has been doing this for 20 yrs, I have about 20 5k launch passes on sticky tires, my t-5 is shifting, and sounds fine, but whatever ford recomends is usually the smartest move.

![]() Not flaming, just sharing. The factory fills T5's with Dexron II. In '88 and later Mustangs, T5's came filled with Mercon ATF, Fords nearly identical twin to DexronII. Although Mercon ATF is the OE recommended lubricant, it is known to become marginal in severe service. The World Class T5's use of organic linings on it's synchro blocker rings' inner core surfaces makes the use of OE-grade DexronII or Mercon ATF-compatible lubricants mandatory. F Type ATF should never be used in a T5, because mating-surface and/or friction-surface damage will occur. The same is true of gear oil. Because standard gear oil is too viscous to flow through all of a T5's needle bearings and lube passages, extensive transmission damage can and will result from it's use.
Take care, -Chris

![]() The plugs are on the passenger's side. A simple $4 pump from Pep-Boys makes the job very easy.
