Default 3 inch lugs for slicks??

Well now that I've been trailering my stang to the track for the past couple of years...the inspectors seem to be a bit more critical when checking out my car. They made me pull a lug nut off last time I was at the track...because the nuts I was using at the time were the long ones that cover the protruding stud. Anyway...they nailed me for not having longer studs since I run slicks. So I went and bought some 3in. Moroso lugs. How on earth do I get these things in there? I pulled my drum...banged all the old lugs out...and there is just no way these long studs will fit in there! Do I have to pull the axles?! Or go the cheese-ball route and drill a hole in the backing plate of the drum to fit the stud through? Or should I just cut a 1/2" off of the tip of the lug? Can I even cut these things? I have access to a killer band saw...but it still might be pretty sketchy. What have all you guys running slicks done?

Your gonna have to yank the axles. Trust me, it's actully easier that way.

Put the studs in the freezer for a couple of hours first and get a big hammer (I used a 20lb sledge). It helps having a sucker....er....friend to hold the axle while you hammer them in. Hehe, that darn axle will jar the crap out of your hands.

Default lugs

Darn. I was afraid of that. I need to rebuild my differential anyway. Guess this will be the time to do it. How exactly to I pull the axles? Are there a couple of c-clips that hold them in behind the diff. cover?

1) take the rear wheels and drums off

2) take the cover off

3) there will be a bolt in a pin that goes through the center of the trac-lok. Take that out.

4) tap the pin out

5) push in on the axles and pull the clips out with a magnet.

6) gently slid the axles out, supporting it as you pull it out.

7) reverse the process (don't put the pin in backwards.)

Call me at 601-737-8304 if you need any help, ask for Josh

Default thanks

Right on. Thanks Josh. I probably won't be doing this until next month sometime. Too busy right now...and I need to order my traction lock rebuild kit to do at the same time. But I just may be giving you a call in the future.
