Default what should I buy next???

I have an 89 gt convertable, t-5 , 3:73's ,bbk 1 5/8 shortys, mac off offroad X pipe, mac cat-back, msd coil, msd wires, timing bumped 14 deg, sub connectors welded. What do you think I should spend some $$$ on next. I am going to spend $1000. Thanks for your ideas as I can't decide. It ran a 14.78@96 ,98deg,out.on street tires with a great amount of tire spin.

Some people may disagree but I am going to say. 2 rims and some slicks. I bet you would run a 14.20 with that alone.

For 1000 bux I would buy some heads and an intake manifold.

You could get some ported GT-40 heads and an explorer intake and a cam for 1000 bux if you look around.

When I took it to the strip, I found the only way I could get it to hook up was leave the line by letting out the clutch at idle and then start getting after it as traction would allow. I think the 98 deg heat didn't help that. I'll get some welds and et streets prior to going again next summer. but what for now?65mm tb,73mm maf, 6al.?? I was planning on afr165's, cam, 24lb injectors, and upper&lower intake next winter. What could I spend 1k on that will support other mods in the future but give it a little extra something now? I guess a small nitrous kit would be the best bang but I don't think I want to go that route yet. Maybe I should start by putting the thing on a diet (tubular k member,w/ coil overs.

I have not heard much on the explorer combo in a long time. It seems like it faded away like a chevy in the rear view mirror.

If you get the MAF, get the injectors with it. You will be set for the heads/intake setup then. I would recommend a C&L 76mm MAF...I have run one for 3 years and have great luck with it. Makes great power with the metal inlet option too. A 65mm TB is a good choice as well.

I am not big on MSD's analog ignitions...step up to the digital or a Crane digital...better rev limiter setting and less failures.

Injectors are over rated. I dynoed 300 to the wheels on 19#rs. A MAF would be good. TB is a waste of time for now. For $1000? I would get a Edelbrock Intake, a C&L 76, A Shift Light, Anderson Power Pipe and a Fuel Pressure Regulator. Good choices for $1000, and prolly pick you up a good half second if not more. I trapped 102 with stock Heads, cam and TB, Edelbrock Intake, C&L73, 3.73 Gears and exhaust.

I vote for a set of Heads. Aluminum will chop of some weight that you were talking about also. I like starting from the inside and going out when it comes to parts.

At this stage of a mostly stock car everyone seems to have a different idea. But heads has come up more than once. I think the gt40p head might be a good idea. When I am ready for a $1300 set of aluminum heads I can always sell the gt40's.What if I went with a 65mm tb,76mm maf,gt40p heads, and do you have to use the gt40 upper and lower intake with these heads or can I pick a better flowing package? I have not read any articles on gt40 anything in a long time. I thought there was a catch to them. I know I should go with the alum, heads to try to lighten up the car being it weighs 10 tons anyway.

I had a similar combo with drag radials and they made a ton of difference. I would drop the clutch around 2k with 20psi in the nittos and would hook up great.

The gt40p is no longer an option because I would have to get new headers specific for them. And after looking at the flow #'s on the afr165's I think waiting till next winter will be more worth the effort.

I say save up some extra money for the afr's and next winter do the rest of the mods. At a 1,000 dollars you are alomost there for the afr's. I know the money is probably burning a hole in your pocket, but I have been through this a few times and its worth the wait to do it right the first time.

Tires would definitely help you make the most of what you have now so that is a good idea. Heads, now that is where the hp lies.. I vote for heads.

I think Summit has TW heads on sale this mojnth for $939 - then find a used Explorer intake for $150 and your golden.

pick up some alum pulleys too, good for the money, maybe a better clutch might help u too? weight reduction and slicks are key, then maybe some control arms.....

It seems like heads are everyone's choice. I was just thinking that a good set of heads wouldn't be useful with the stock intake, tb, maf etc. If I could get all the other stuff 1st then top it off with a good set of heads and a cam the thing might come to life. I could spring the $'s for the afr's, but I also wanted to get rid of the factory turbine rims. I'm sick of trying to clean em. I drive this car once a week in the summer only. But it seems like I have to clean the rims after every use. The last time I took it to the dragstrip I got smoked by a honda civic, so I loaded it up and said I won't bring it back until it's able to get into the 13's. At least that is more respectable. there is nothing wrong with 14's and beyond as long as your OK with that, and having a good time doing it. but I wasn't Ok with the 4 door civic thing.
