Sorry, but what are weld-on subframe connectors? And the pulleys, will they require me to change the alternator? I had a buddy who had problems with the alternator after he put the pulleys. Thanks for the help....

Headers and hi-flow h-pipe are always a good modification.

Go for a high flow H pipe. The gears would be a good mod, but they'll set you back between $400-$500 with installation.

Get a type r sticker, a HUGE spoiler, and paint ur hood black.

then you will have a 10second car

Unit, depending on his mechanical abilities, if he installed the gears himself, it would only be a bit above $200.00..

if not save yer $$$ gears will get you the best bang for the $$..

bowtie eater, he'll need the coffee can for the exhaust tip....

If it's a manual - get the Pro 5.0 shifter. You will notice the difference EVERY time you shift. About $190 mail order, and fairly easy to install by yourself.

Guys, your replys have been great and halarious.. One question unanswered though. Will i need to upgrade the alternatorif i get the pulley set? Will i have to change the serpent belt? If so, is it included with the kits. If not then what belt should i buy.

Joe

USMC302 09-27-2001 02:31 PM

There are two pulley sets you can buy, a drag racing set or te street racing set. The drag racing set will require you to get a higher amp alternator due to the smaller crank pulley. The street racing set will be suffice for you stock alternator, just keep the smaller of the two pulley's( stock or aftermarket) on the alternator for better charging.

wing, sticker, lololololol, how true!

Most people do not have the technical knowledge of replacing gears, nor do they have the tools that should be used to measure depths and what not.

As far as the gears being the best bang for the buck, they're real good, but the H pipe will be right up there with it. A good H pipe will give you a legitimate 20hp and cut about 2 tenths off the quarter mile time. You can pick up a used H for about $100, or new off roads for $150. That's as good a return as you can get with money spent on a mostly stock car. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif

Just my opinion though, lots of other ones out there for sure.

blu oval 09-27-2001 09:11 PM

You people forgot stickers. Stickers can add up to 50 hp expecally the AEM and "HONDA" sticker .. the more the marrier .. something like that ..

ok but pulleys , thermostat , homemade ram air .. little stuff like that adds up .

Stang_Crazy 09-27-2001 09:49 PM

I have been following this topic seeing as how I have a 89 that is STOCK. even down to the silencer! I'm thinking about:

Tri-Ax or Pro 5.0
FRPP 4.10's
Subframe Connecters

I already have the dynomax cat-back and H-pipe waiting to be installed. And I also have pulleys with a short belt.

I got my FMS 3.73 gears off of E-bay for $75.00 new and installed them myself.

I would have been sick if I would have paid 500.00 since I went no faster with the lower gears. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif

20hp off a h-pipe install??, unit i always know your a smart guy on these questions, but i gained absolutely nothing, maybe 10hp on the topend, sound is awesome though, http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif i would do the subframe connectors, traction is better than horsepower when you have a near stock mustang, when you got traction, suspension tightened up, grs, then go for the hp mods, just my opinions.....good luck, could also get a monster tachometer lol.
