Cool What will live longer?

What will live longer, a 331, a 342, a 347? And who should I buy it from?

I personally like the 331. The rod to stroke ratio is pretty well laid out in this combo. The 331 will give more power on the higher revs and the 347 would give more in the low area. However that really doesn't come into play...that's what they make gears for.

I never ran into anyone running a 342...I believe this was the fix for the wrist pin protruding into the oil ring in the 347's. I believe many company's fixed this?

Were you looking for a short block or a stroker kit? If your going with the kit be sure to see if it comes balanced...usually not.

the oil burning issues were all an exageration from a small number of engines that had issues in the VERY early days.

The 342 is the exact same thing as a 347, except its utilizing a new stock 4" bore block. It is not bored out 0.030" like the 347, hence the 5cid less.

The 331 is a 327 when using the stock bore, just FYI

I've always felt that if you are going to bother with a stroker, why not go all out? A 331 just seems like you went to alot of trouble and spent a lot of money, on something that isn't THAT much more cid than stock.
To each his own I guess.

I went with an Eagle 347 kit with SRP pistons, cast crank, and forged I beam rods, and I absolutely love it. It makes an amazing amount of torque down low, and a suprising amount of power higher in the RPM range (considering the heads I have).

anyway, thats what I would reccomend. Most of the bigger vendors have a pretty good reputation as far as I've seen, so I dont think you can't go wrong as long as you pick a big name.
