![]() I am pretty new to the mustang world. I was handed down an 86 stang GT w/5.0, now i know it has flowmasters. However i am not sure if it's the 2 chamber or 3 chamber. How can i identify it? Also what would an H or X Pipe do to the car as far as performance and sound? Any help will be very much appreciated.
Regards Joe

![]() A X-pipe will be about 1-3HP better. As for sound many poeple dont like it as well as the H-pipe.
Here is my car mostly stock with a X-Pipe and Edelbrock RPMS for Muffers.

![]() There seem to be two schools of thought regarding exhaust mods on a stock 5.0. Either you're going to see gains in the 10-15hp range, or you're going to see gains in the 1-5hp range.
Stang Runner, is that an O/R X-pipe, or did you have cats on it? It sounds verrrrrry sweet. ![]()

![]() In the sound department, you will get the true Mustang exhaust sound with the off road h pipe and Flowmasters. A deep throaty sound with a nice rumble.

![]() I love the 86 questions, the off-road pipes in either configuration will give you at least 10 horsepower.
The general rule is that X-pipes yield more low end torque than an H-pipe, to me, torque is where its at on the street, the H-pipe will do very well too, giving you a little more top end horsepower than the X. Torque is what excellerates the car, horsepower is indicative of top speed, I'll always take torque over horsepower.

![]() It's the other way 'round. X-pipe for top-end, H-pipe for torque.
