Post What's the Difference between 95 GT and 95 Cobra

First let me nbe clear, I am talking about the Cobra NOT the Cobra R. I have decided to look at the 95 model year only in my hunt for a Mustang. When looking, I found there is not a big price diffence for a 95 GT or 95 Cobra so I was wondering what the differences are between the two. I've gone to many websites and the only differences I can find so far is that the Cobra has larger tires, 25hp more, no (difference in torque)and coated gears in the T5 with larger bearings. If there are more differences please let me know.

Are there any general reasons one is prefferable over the other? I figured since the Cobra cost more when new, there's a chance the Cobra would have been bought by an older person (on average) and perhaps beat on less.

The Cobra has a different throttle-body, intake, heads, rocker arms, cam, computer, injectors, and better brakes.

The Cobra is a superior car from the factory.

So it sounds like the Cobra is basically what I might have if I bought a GT and then did some minor modification work to it over time. Maybe that's a better way for me to go since I really don't intend to modify it much. Of course, I bet that's what everyone says! You are blown away by the car and then after 3-6 months start wondering, "I love this car but what if....."

I would bet that a cobra was bought by an old guy, how often do you see a high school kid in one? or a college kid? definently get the cobra, but get another computer.

Cobra's have GT40 iron heads, Cobra/GT40 intake, 1.7 ratio rocker arms, 60mm TB, 70mm MAF, 24lb injectors, Cobra specific cam (very torquey), 13" front disc brakes, 11" rear disc brakes, white face gauges......that's all i can think of.

Hey, Dinomite: at 35 I QUALIFY as one of
"those old guys"!!! Some of us get into the Mustang in weird ways. For me, we have 3 children and the wife has a minivan, but I've only owned Posches. My wife wants me to get a car that seats 5 people in a pinch. My Porsche only seats 4 and not comfortably. So, when you make a list of cars that will seat 5 in a pinch, and not be some piece of crap front wheel drive car and want it to be fun, you are really left only with the Mustang and Camaro variants. To me, while the GM cars are faster stock, they fall apart and build quality is below Ford. So, a Mustang is really the only choice.

hehe, in this sense, you do qualify as "one of those old guys" but fear not, you don't fit that qualification in general terms! a mustang would be reallly hard to put 5 people in, why not get a bimmer of some sort? 5 people MUCH more comfortably, but if you get one of the larger engine ones (330, 535) they are quick.

I have to second dinomite here. A mustang will fit 5, but I can't imagine kids being comfortable in the back seat unless they are under 8 years old and don't plan on growing anytime soon. Find yourself the new BMW M3, I've ridden in one and I garuntee you won't be disappointed.

You are right about the M3 and 330 models, but since I'm lokoing at spending money for a 95 GT, the cost of the BMWs are over 3 times that amount so it is not an option. Besides, I know many people with BMWs and personally, I find their ride not as sporting as their image and reliabiliy has been an issue with many models with costs extremely high.

I'll also be having 5 people in the car maybe 3-5 times a year. For the most part it will be me alone or perhaps at most 3 people.

You guys are supposed ot be talking me INTO a Mustang not out of one!

Something to think about, you could buy a used BMW (like the 95 stang you want) but parts you buy would be new BMW priced not New ford priced. A friend bought a used BMW (8 years old i think) and raved about how inexpensive it was. Then he hit a curb and damaged a strut and was amazed at how expensive a BMW strut was. He sold it and bought an s10 blazer, go figure. I say get the cobra, they look cooler than the GT what with the little snake emblem

I must be one of the really OLD guys at 50. :-) I picked up a 95 GT convertible a couple of years ago and unless you want rice burners out running you get the Corbia. The computer in the GT AOD 5.0 is a DOG!! I did serveral mods when I got the car but am still stuck with the "brains".

NOt sure about the '95 GTs. But the computer in the '94 & '95 Cobra is crap from what I hear. Swapping the Cobra computer out for a '89-'93 5.0 A9L computer is supposed to unleash a decent amount of hidden power in the Cobra motors.

I to fit the OLD MAN here lol (34). I got tired of feeding a 2 ton plus 1975 400 cid Cougar. I did have it in the lower 14,s. But anyways I looked around alot for a new toy. The Mustang was the only option to me. Easy to mod, and still a 18 mpg car running down in the 12,s. I dont like GM,s choice, (hmm wont even think about one them they get shot at at my place hehehe). Well I didnt answer your ? but thought Id say something here. Good luck with what ever you get. I sure like my 88 GT.
