Post whats going rate for a total T5 tranny re-build?

My tranny has 120000 miles on it and since I am putting in a new motor I figure that I should get it rebuilt. I just dont know if 650 for parts and labor (what a local shop wants) is a good price??? Any help will be appreciated !!!

Well that price seems good but what NEW parts are you getting?

IMPUT SHAFT $100
COUNTER SHAFT / CLUSTER $250
2ND and 3RD GEAR $50
OVERHAUL KIT-sycros/bearings/retainers etc $150

TOTAL $550/Parts
If you don't already have it you will need a STEEL bearing retainer, they run around $30 I beleive.

I charge around $250 for a complete over haul in labor, and I do it right checking endplay gear mesh etc...

Hope that helps

Great information, Rick!

Just as a side note, I recently took my T5 down to a local shop for a rebuild qoute and they wanted $1000!!! and that was JUST for new snycros. I don't think they wanted my business - too busy maybe? Anyways, I have decided to sell my T5 and purchase a Tremec.

If you don't want to go with a Tremec, you could also consider buying a whole new T5Z tranny. Shouldn't be that much more than a rebuild.

Good luck, E

I just ordered a rebuilt one from D&D today. Came to 950.00 shipped.

From what I was told, it's in the cobra box, 85% new parts and is rated at 310 ftlbs. Seems like a good deal to me. Most shops around here want 100 bucks just to look at the thing.

I just got my T-5 rebuilt for $775. That included labor and parts (synchros for every gear, a new 2nd gear, and pads on all the forks).

Cool, thought you might go that route , but if your ever need any work done to that one or anything else let me know, I will be glad to help. Keep the other T-5 as a spare, it is nice to have some extra parts laying around. What did Don have to say, imput shaft?
