What's needed to build a Turbo 5.0L?
Hi,
This is in relation to my prev. post about knowing how to make more power. Well, my plan for my car is to do a single Turbo setup (using a Garrett T04 turbo from a junkyard), in a year or two. My engine being totally stock (except for mild cam), and the fact that I might just buy a new C&L MAF (for 19# injectors). What kind of upgrades would I need to make the engine, so it can handle a turbo running 9psi (or little higher)? I've read the Turbo How-To article on SN95 and the requirements seem to be simple upgrades - Fuel (pump, injectors, regulator) - Ignition - Air-flow (MAF, etc.) - The usual exhaust plumbing and turbo necessities - Tranny + clutch (enough to handle the power) - Cam Is this all that's needed? How much HP can the stock 302's engine parts handle? Thanks! Bye! ------------------ Gautam N. Lad http://www.cubicdesign.com http://www.cubicdesign.com/mustang/ |
if you go to yahoo.com and go to the message board, do a search for jyturbo. this is a group of people that do junk yard turbo stuff. if i remember right the t04 is the turbo used on the turbo coupe, if this is true, then that turbo by itself is to small for a 5 liter motor and the performance increases would be minimum. but a few things you might want to factor in is, a better set of heads and manifold, an intercooler (consider this manditory as the performance gains are substainal) with that said, i believe a street 302 is at it's limits in the 550~600 horsepower range, although they will take more power, i wouldn't trust the block for a really long time. A couple of cool pieces i would consider in a turbo motor build up (an FMU, and an electronic boost controller.
