Where to mount MSD box?
 

I have a MSD 6AL box that is currently mounted under the hood. I have seen people mount them inside the car. What is the benefit from being mounted inside? Wondering on wether to move mine or not.

It is cooler in the car and supposedly better environment for the electronics. Although I have never heard of anyone having problems with the MSD box getting too hot under the hood. That is where mine is.
One drawback I have heard of when you mount it inside the car is elecrical interference "noise" reaking havoc with your car's computer. I have heard of people that have had to move the box or re route the wires when this happened.

I have all my electronics and msd box inside the car for obvious reasons. 1. it keeps everything out of the hot sun. 2. If you put it under the hood, it alway has excessive heat under it. Some MSD boxes have shorted out because of extreme heat.

I learned that when I worked for Bill Elliott. We always had 2 boxes (reg & backup) mounted on the floorboard to Bill's right. After that, I always put them inside of my vehicles, too. There are shielded sleeves for the wires that will prevent the signal from leaking over to the ECM wires.

The very first time I worked on a car was a Datsun B-210 my parents gave me when I was 14. It didn't run, so they figured it was safe. My Dad told me i'd never be able to fix it.

Well, long story short, I did. it was the cartb, so I taught myself how to rebuild it.

Since then, this is just what I do. I've taken every class I could find at the local cc, and always offered to help anyone that could teach me something. When I started my business, my reputation quickly spread. I haven't paid a penny for advertising in 4 years.

I got the job withh Bill through a customer of mine that was very impressed with my work, and who's cousin was the main body work man for Bill's McDonalds Taurus in '98.

I love engines.

Know then, ask me about sewing, or Greek mythology, and I'm clueless.

I've also heard of people mounting them in the cowl.

I have mine mounted in the passenger side floor board on the transmission tunnell. The only problem I have with it being there is passengers always seem to unplug my tach signal wire from the side of the box with their feet. That and you can hear the box over the radio, when the rasio is at low volumes. I have a loud system so the radio is never at low volumes.

I have a question, without relocating the battery to the rear of the car, where in the engine bay can you moung a MSD 6AL box? I couldn't find anywhere to stuff it, that's why it ended up in the car.

I've got mine mounted under the drivers seat with the wires neatly routed under the carpet. Looks great when you slide the seat forward. I'll grab my wife's digital camera and try to load a pic up tomorrow.
