Default Cam timming?

Whats up guys long time no see.

For the past couple of weeks I've been messsing around with a 5hp Briggs & Strat. Last night when I was taking it apart the cam fell out of it. No big deal just line up the two dots ( one on the cam with the one on the crank), and there you have it; timming set. But I was thinking could I adv/ret. the cam like one tooth or something like that? Would that work.... Would it be like adv/ret. the cam in your car would it act differently on the Briggs.
Anyway that was just an idea that was floating around in my head. Let me know what you guys think about it, pros/cons. All that good stuff.

Thanx,
Monty
