WHY A9L EEC "only" for SD --> MAF Conversion ??
Why does the EEC "need" to be from JUST a A9L GT only ??
Wouldn't another EEC-IV from another application work instead ? Why couldn't any of these (below) work ?? OEM Binaries A9L - 89-93 5.0L Mustang 5-spd A3M - 93 5.0L Mustang 5-spd A3M1 - 93 5.0L Mustang 5-spd X3Z - 93 5.0L Cobra 5-spd A9P - 89-93 5.0L Mustang Auto A9S - 88-93 5.0L Mustang California C3W - 89-93 5.0L Mustang Auto DA1 - 87 5.0L Mustang 5-spd J4J1 - 94-95 5.0L SVT Cobra 5-spd T4M0 - 94-95 5.0L GT Vert 5-spd U4P0 - 94-95 5.0L GT Auto WH40 - 94-95 5.0L GT ZA0 - 95 Cobra R D9S - Lincoln LSC ZXA3 LLX3 CCA1 CCA0 AOL2 AOL3 The above info was obtained from; -->> EEC-IV Tech info from Tom Cloud <<--- |
I would think that any one of them would work. Why are you converting?

None of the 94/95 computers or the lincoln computers will work because it just dont haha dont ask me why. Ive tried and it just doesnt work. Now your better off just getting the A9L computer there the most common. You can use them in any conversion that you want to do. sometimes its better not to ask questions and just do it

SRV1- I'm not gonna do it. :)

How about the details. Are the fuel tables in the EEC-IV the only consideration (other than changing Pinouts ??) I'm not buying the fact that the A9L is the ONLY EEC-IV that'll work for this conversion. As we know, they're getting harder to find and expensive when you do find one. So WHY are they considered the BEST/ONLY EEC-IV that will work ?? I'd really like to know.... |
Any of them will work. Just stay in the ECM family that is for your year or body style:
A9L -- 88-93 Mustang (5-speed) includes A9L, A3M, A3M1, D3D1, X3Z, S0Z A9M -- 88-93 Mustang (auto) includes A9M, A9P, C3W, C3W1 A9S -- 88-93 Mustangs (CA.) includes A9S, 8LD ZA0 -- 94-95 Mustang includes T4M0, U4P0, W4H0, J4J1, ZA0 Murdock |
While the 94-95 EEC processor will work there are a few differences that you should be aware of. 1st off the 94-95 EEC was designed for a new model car with some important differences in it. EEC runs a 2 speed electric fan, no big deal. The Major change had to do with Ford trying to deal with a rash of 5 speed trans failures believe it or not. So to address the problem the 94-95 EEC was set up to pull timming out of the ignition on every gear change to soften the "blow " to the trans on shifts. 2nd, timming is pulled out after reaching about 92mph to cut down on the torque load that the trans was seeing in 3-5th gears depending of rear gear ratio. Swaping in a 93 EEC into a 94-95 5.0 usually netted about a .5 sec quarter improvement. Pro-M makes a conversion kit for just such a swap, it also address the electric fan function for the 94-95 that the 93 EEC cannot provide. So I would not use a 94-95 EEc myself unless there just was no other option at the time.

Good info!

Why won't the 89-93 Mark VII EEC-IVs work ??? |
The 94-95 computers (T4MO) will work..... but you have to re-pin the injector wires. Just look at the 87-93 pin-out and the 94-95 pin-outs to see the difference....
I know because when I initially converted my 86 to Mass-air, I only had a 95 5 spd processor. Now running the 9AL.... Teddy |
Re: WHY A9L EEC "only" for SD --> MAF Conversion ??
Was there just a timing change on the CA computers, or was there also a wiring difference from the A9M?
