Will I see 340-350FWHP with this combo, please respond
I have a 95 GT convert with the following: edlbrock intake, 65mm t-body, shorty headers, off road X pipe, ASP underdrive pulleys, 2 chamber flowmasters, 3.73's, alum. D.S., HD clutch, GW subframe connectors, 13* timing, and a K&N w/ homemade air inlet. These parts took me from a 15.2 at 90mph to a 13.8 at 98mph. I just bought a set of AFr 165/58cc heads, and with them I will add a 75mm Pro-M MAF, 24/30lb injectors, 190lph fuel pump, roller rockers, and a cam yet to be determined. My goal is a trap speed of 105mph, which will require 340-350FWHP, is it possible with the increased breathing of the new heads/cam, and the compression increase associated with the 58cc heads? I may mill them to 54cc's if i have to to achieve my goal.

I'll bet your 95 GT makes 0 FWHP even after those modifications. At least mine does now and in the future. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif
You have been reading too much rice pages, haven't you? http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif |
Do you have a TYPE-R - if not put that sticker on and you will have 450FWHP http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif
|
IAm sure he is talking about flywheel HP, 350 at the flywheel is possible with the parts you have, the only hold back is that those heads are gonna flow more than you can use, I would at least think about jumping over to long tube headers. if you were to add a power adder with those heads, i bet you would be hitting 450 or 500 depending on the tune of things
|
I agree, 350hp at the flywheel is totally possible with a fairly mild cam even.
Definately do not need 30lb injectors. You'll be at the top of the 19lb injector range with 350hp. If you go overkill on the injectors real bad, the fuel pressure will have to be set too low and you'll get a crappy spray pattern. |
If you people are too stupid to know that hes talking about FLY WHEEL horse power you have no business even being on this board. Go back to your ricer pages. Sorry to be harsh, but your obviously new here and killer canary isn't, so don't give him any **** .
Anyways, those a great heads. Theres no reason not to mill them unless you plan on a blower. The compression can only help. I completely think you can get 350fwhp out of those. Just get it tuned well once you put them on. Also go with the 24's. My car still runs rich with 24's and 36psi as it is. I really think if you get a good cam to match it all you'll hit 107mph. Given decent weather and a good tune and all. I'm in a bad mood. Agree with Skyler and previous couple of posts!!! 340-350 FWHP...F being FLYWHEEL, is definitely possible and I would say, extremely probable. Those are good heads and your real challenge will be to select the proper cam, and this is where many go wrong. If you have the heads worked over, have them flowed as these numbers will be one of the most important aspects of selecting a proper cam. Next, emissions and driveability may be a concern, although my 5.0 has run a solid roller with .561 lift int/exh, and 230/236 int/exh duration and passed sniffer test with no problems. It now has the XE274 and still passes with flying colors. It also depends on possible future mods, i.e. a blower, etc. Main thing is take your time on a cam selection!!!! I love this CompCams XE series, but their are many other good cams out there. I also used the DeskTop Dyno 2000 to get a feel for how a multitude of factors would affect torque and HP. But in answer to your query, YES, 340-350 FWHP is probably a foregone conclusion...about 290-300 RWHP. Main thing is the cam...with your weight in the 95 GT, and, if it is mainly a street warrior, I'd select a cam that gives you a broad, fairly flat torque curve. Good luck guy...

Thanks Skyler- you said it before I had too and said just as would have, if they didn't know that they had no reason to be here. I love it when I get good responses from people in the know. I can see that I better do a lot of research on the cam. I' gonna call around this week to see what i can find out. Thanks.

If your goal is 105 trap speed, you don't need to go to 350/360fwhp. My car dyno'd at 307Rwhp (around 350Fwhp with a stick) & I ran 107-108 through the traps regularly. If your goal is the power, you will be pleasently suprised.

N20LX- I do need that much though as I have an extremely heavy SN95 convertible. The lightest I ever had the car was 3510 without me, which would be about 3685lbs with. But as I said, this is the lightest I ever had it. When you say I'll be plesently surprised- does that mean you think I will be close to my goal? I want 340-350FWHP, or about 285-295rwhp.

Hmm... thats really not that heavy. My car was rated at 3280 stock. Add some fuel and me + subframes and its about 3500lbs race weight. Thats why mines so damn slow.

With that kind of list of modifications that Killercanary has I sure believe he doesn't think he's driving a front wheel driven mustang. Sure I knew the relation for the flywheel but also had a six-pack of beer for that friday night and just couldn't try not to be funny. Also I couldn't imagine it could really offend somebody that much even for me being within those "newbie-restrictions". I just weren't in all earnestness concerning the content of matter that you were, but I still didn't conceive it to get that seriously taken. I apology if you or Killercanary felt somehow insulted, that was not my intention. |
Hey Killer what's up? Been to the track lately? As everyone has said, you should be near 290-310 rwhp ~ 350 fwhp with that set up. As for the cam I hear nothing but good about Ed Curtis (custom cam). You should be able to trap at 105+ I'm at almost @101 with stock heads and cam. Let me know your new times with the heads.Later.

killercanary - I would say yes. Here is what I have on my 91 Coupe and I am fairly satisfied given that I have no real idea of how to "tune" it properly:
1) Stock 302 block 2) TFS TW heads 65cc cambers (~9.0:1 comp) 3) Steeda #19 cam - small cam don't have the specs with me. 4) Complete exhaust 5) 3.55's & alum. DS 6) GT-40 intake w/65 mm TB and 75mm Pro-M MAF 7) 1.6 rollers 8) March pulleys 9) some other small stuff Here are the stats: Weight w/me: 3250 lbs Dyno: 289RWHP 312RWTQ = ~332FWHP 358FWTQ (assuming 15% loss) Qtr. Mile - consistent 105mphs and a couple 106's. low 13's w/BFG drag radials and 2.0-2.1 60's. Thanks guys, you're really getting my spirits up. One of the main reasons I have not bought heads until now is that I couldn't convince myself to shell out roughly 2 grand on heads, cam, MAF, injectors and stuff if I was only going to be at or around 300HP, or roughly 101 in the 1/4- especially since I'm at ~98.5mph now, that's a lot of money for only 3-4mph. My reasoning behind this is that a set of underdrive pulleys netted me 3mph! Most of the 94-95 coupes I've seen with heads, cam, intake, etc only run like 101-102mph, hell there are two SC 94-95 verts at my track that only turn like 100mph, one even runs with drag radials! This is why I'm obsessed with ~350HP, I want to run that 105mph or better MPH. I appreciate all the input from everyone, please keep it coming.
Dave- I haven't been to the track since it closed in October. My best pass was a 13.83 at 98.3mph with a 1.91 60', but 90% of all my passes now fall within 13.89-13.83, and my mph is always between 98.3-98.55. What kind of times are you running with that MPH? Those are really impressive numbers, I always wanted to venture down to Mason Dixon dragway or Englishtown NJ before I put the heads on because I'd run a lot better at both tracks in comparison to mine due to elevation. I have a pic of my timeslip on my webpage if you want to compare your to mine to see where you are picking up that MPH- I'm curious. My site is http://www.angelfire.com/pa2/killercanary. 79STANG- no harm done, it just bugs me when the smart a$$ people who know nothing try to be funny, but if in good taste then its OK. You're lucky you appologized as I'm coming to Jacksonville this weekend for training at my companies headquarters and I might have to hunt you down... just kidding. Are there any good places to go out in Jacksonville? I'll be there a week and want to party a little if time permits, they keep us busy when we are there.

You asked the right guy http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif I'm in college, and make my rounds I guess... I'm a sales consultant for PSS- Physician Sales and Service, are there any cool things near there? We stay in St. John's Plantation Apts off South Side BLVD, are there any cool bars by there as well?

Didn't think about the heavy car. You should hit your goal with your mods depending on the cam. Your best shot is to talk to a knollegable Ford tuner that offeers custom cams. Explain your current parts & make sure you mention the weight, it should make a difference. Your gonna need some grunt low to get that thing rolling.
307 rwhp on my car went like this: Edlebrock Performer RPM Crane 2040 cam Stage II TW's Full length headers 73 mm C&L 24# injectors |
Yea - thats right near my school, University of North Florida (Sports Med. major) - there is a big area of nothing, but bar/grill right there - goto the Ale House or TGI Fridays....

I dont think you'll have a problem at all.
Eric's car there is making 289rwhp with the same heads as me. My car weights about 200lbs more than him, and I'm trapping about 106mph also, so Im probably around 300rwhp. We both only have about 9:1 compression. Your going to have 10.5:1 and only weight 200lbs more than me. Also my run was made on a 105degree day, and I have no clue as to tuneing. I was running 38psi fp and 23 degrees of initial timing. As well as your car is performing now, and comparing it to my car which is only about 180lbs lighter and I ran in hot weather with an E-303 cam...
Im going to say with some good weather/driving, and tuning you'll hit 107mph with the 10.5:1 compression. Sky- what kind of times are you running now anyway? I hope your right about me, I keep lookng at how far I've come already with the stock heads, cam, MAF, injectors, etc that I can only imagine what I will run when I replace all of them. I remember back over two years ago when I had a goal of a 14 flat without swapping the heads, and darn near everyone said it would be impossible to do in a 95 GT convert, but here I am, and I surpassed my goal, though at times I believed everyone. Especially when I had gears and exhaust and was still in the 15's!

I havnt run since last year at pomona. When I ran 13.2@106mph. It was a really hot day (105degrees) in the middle of july. I have to get to the track again now and see what I can do since its cooler.
