Default wireing prob...

I was thinking about buying a mustang off my friend, but there is a little problem that makes me cautios. Its an 89GT that had an engine swap to a 93 GT. When the clutch is disengaged, the car runs fine, but when it is plugged in, the car dosent start or starts then dies. I really want this car, but dont want to drop 1000 bucks into wireing. He said he thought is was a prob with the ground wire? I would apreciate ANY help. thanks!
