Wow, PCV pain in the ***

Is there an easy way to change the PCV valve. It seems that removing upper intake would be the easiest way to access it. Can someone please let me know. Also, I read on a post to silicone the valve in place. Is this really necessary or recommended??

hmmm... usually you can reach back there and grab it with your fingers, it's tight but can be done. I have never siliconed it in place but they have always fit pretty tight on mine.

Learn from my pain, GET THE FORD PCV VALVE. Forget about any parts store unit, they dont fit tight enough into the rubber grommet. And that will cause quite a big oil leak. Leave the original grommet, I replaced my grommet and it did not fit as tight as the old one, I ended up siliconing that in place.

Dont take off the upper intake unless you want to change the valve cover gasktets too. It's tight back there but the PCV can be reached with some contortions

yeah, just reach back there, follow the vaccuum hose and pull it out! Make sure the engine is cool though, it gets hot back there! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif Good luck!

The PCV valve can be removed by hand, as the prior posts stated. Do it on a cold engine. As Chevyguy recommended, get the FORD PCV kit for about $10. or less at any Ford/Mercury dealer. Don't use aftermarket PCV's. The kit contains the valve, grommet and screen which should all be replaced about every 30,000 miles or so. I do mine at 20,000 but I'm a maintenance fanatic.

BTW:I've never, ever had a problem with the Ford PCV or grommet not fitting snugly. No leaks - ever from the PCV in 112,000 miles.
