I read somewhere there is a tool to remove them, but not to install them. (???) ...I'm thinking it was over at Hardcore50.com, though I can't recall for sure. (do a search over there - spiro locks - if you want)
I use a couple of very small flat-head screw drivers to remove them... what a pain in the arse! Very tedious work, that you must do carefully, or else you run the risk of slipping and scratching the side of the piston.
Installing them is very tedious as well... just start one end into the groove and then sort of feed it around until in place. Push the first one down into the groove, to seat it all the way, and then start the second one. The first one you do will take the longest, obviously, but after doing a few you start to get the hang of it.
The biggest thing is to not get in a big-*** hurry to get them in, and you should be fine... otherwise, have an engine builder do them for you. (I say give it a try, at least)
