Default fuel sending unit on a 83

I am replacing the gas tank in my 83 conv. and the problem is that I have a bad fuel sending unit. Since these are very hard to come by that are in decent shape do I have any alternatives? I don't want to replace the gauge and I know that the sending units on the 86 and up don't work. Do you think that someone makes sending units that will work with my guage.

Thanks once again.

I'm sure someone does. Where have you tried?

I have tried all the Ford dealerships and they tell me that they no longer carry them....discontinued.

I have tried some salvage places but they want about 100 bucks for a 19 year old sender unit. I just thought that someone mike make a new replacement sender unit that would work with my gauge.

Have you tried Pep Boys? I bought one there for a customer of mine who had a 1979 Cadillac. Napa had them too. Might want to call and see. Otherwise, check with Autometer.

Take care,
-Chris
