ZR-1
I was just wondering if anybody has raced a ZR-1 Corvette. I have only read about you guys racing LS1's.........what would somebody need to make a Stang keep up with a Z?????
|
I just bought my car Oct 10 2000 & never driven it, but a friend Has A 1990 LX with underdrive pulleys, bbk shorty headers, Mac 2.5" off road h- pipe, 3.55 gears, 14* of timing, lowering springs, & he has raced a ZR-1, Not to sucessfully though, he wants Heads, Cam & an intake to show those ZR-1's their place.
the easiest way to spank those Vettes is a blower, or nitrous (less work than installing Heads, Cam & Intake). Hope you tell them where it's at! ------------------ No Smog Pump (Shorty Belt), Dumps At The End Of Stock H-Pipe (Sounds Mean), K&N Air Filter (Stock Air Box), 198.9 rwhp @4200 (235 Motor!!), 285 lbs-ft @2900 (336 Motor!!!). |
Yeah...someday I would love to run with a ZR-1. I don't want to piss anybody off but I do love vette's. I was brought up around them, and have driven my dads......although my stang is faster than it, it is just a whole nother feeling driving one. I guess I just respect a good car.

One of my friends had a 91 ZR1 and those are pretty fast. His wan't stock though - it had some work done by Mallet. Iwas pretty cool though - even had a 6 point cage in it. He never ran it at the 1/4 but autocrossed it frequently. It was more than a rush than my car...

There was a red ZR1 corvette at Gainesville FL running 12.90's @108.00mph.
Don't know if he had any mod's. ------------------ James Cox nochevy@hotmail.com 1991 Mustang LX 12.565 @109.38mph 1.764 60ft |
I used to be a vette freak, that is... until i went for a ride in a guy at my works 1990 5.0 lx hb with 3.55's pulleys...
the best run a STOCK zr-1 could run is 12.9, but thankfully there are many stangs that put them in their place (hopefully i will when i get NOS, if not when i get my twin turbo kit). Keep those vettes in the rearview mirror! ------------------ No Smog Pump (Shorty Belt), Dumps At The End Of Stock H-Pipe (Sounds Mean), K&N Air Filter (Stock Air Box), 198.9 rwhp @4200 (235 Motor!!), 285 lbs-ft @2900 (336 Motor!!!). |
The first stang i ever rode in was a friends 88 lx hatch, with 351 windsor ported hds, 70mm tb, 1-5/8 eql lnght saleen headers, h-pipe, e-cam, and cobra intk, 17in wheels lowered, it was said to run door to door with a zr1 http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif i wouldn't doubt it, that sucker flew!

I did at the track and then he followed me home. I beat him by about 6 cars, Don't get me wrong they are fast but.......

Dyno at 556hp to the wheels. |
The only 'vette anyone should worry about is the one with a 427 between the shock towers. If you build it, they will run!
------------------ 1989 GT- Vortech blown 306, Anderson 3" power pipe, Vortech S-Trim 14# boost, MSD-6BTM, black wrinkle finish Cobra valve covers(woohoo), world class T-5, 3.55 gears, custom sub-frame connectors, Cobra grille insert and rear valance, Saleen "whale" wing, 4 wheel disc conversion, est 1/4mile time of 10.5+/- 1994 Cobra- MAC cold air fender kit, Motorsport underdrive pulley's, MAC 21/2" off-road H pipe, SVO mufflers, 3.73 gears, E-303 cam, 13.417@101.335mph |
The ZR1 is fast, but the new Z06 is suppose to be even faster. I have seen several 5.0's that can keep up and even beat it, at least in the 1/4 mile. Beyond the 1/4 the I don't think there are many 5.0's that can catch it, it's supose to be able to go to the 200mph.

Pride in ownership is great guys, but lets wake up and smell the coffee. A STOCK Mustang has NO CHANCE against a stock, late model vette of any kind. A 1990 to 92 ZR1 has 375hp and runs high 12's, a 93 to 95 zr has 405 hp and is faster. A c5 has 355 hp and runs about 13 flat, a Z06 has 385 and runs mid 12's. Lets compare apples to apples. I dont know when the last time I saw a STOCK mustang run in the 14's and the sure the hell didnt run 13's or 12's. LETS TRY TO STAY OUT OF FANTASYLAND :-)

yeah but compare for what you pay for a vette look what you can do too a stang, any one of those vettes you could smoke and still have cash left over. http://hapygas.stangnet.com

Don't let the one post troll get your panties in a bunch.....
ZR1's run about as quick as a lightly modded WS6. Nothing special. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif |
Don't forget that the parts on the vetts are made for higher proformance also. You put a set of heads on a mustang that flow as well as a ZR-1s you will notice a breathing difference. Then also price in working on it too is steep. They are nice but expensive!
|
Well I don't know about the 5.0's that have a hard time running 14's, but I know my stock 87GT can run 11's. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...ard/tongue.gif Just ask the ricers who say they run 12's before I whoop up on 'em. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif

Where have you been? My stock 88GT runs 13.80 in the 1/4 and my stock 93GT runs 14.90 STOCK!! ------------------ 93 Mustang GT. Vortec exhaust,K&N 14.90@93 |
OH sorry for the misguided response. So your saying a MODIFIED mustang can run with a STOCK corvette, hmmmm that was pretty much my point too.
|
A ZR1 compared to a 5.0 is not much of a comparsion, its like comparing a VW to a porsche. A VW can beat a Porsche if modified, a 5.0 can beat the ZR1 if modified. So whats the point..
