Post 1989 Mustang LX 2.3 L

My mustang just turned off on me while driving on the freeway. Couldn't go past 45mph when it turned off (choked?). Was able to coast off the freeway and park. Waited a few minutes and turned on again but idle was very low. Had to keep pressing the gas while stopped at a traffic light to keep it going. Any ideas on what to check greatly appreciated.
