2000 V6 need ideas
I want the most efficient bang for my buck so I can at least
burn the tires a bit. Stock v6 sucks, and is really slower than my olds v6 achieva... sad to say. I will do the cold air. What else it there that is good to do that isn't crazy?Stuff like turbo or NOX seems a bit far from what I know how to do. I do things like change my pipes, etc. |
In terms of things you can do in your yard there's not a whole lot that will make much of a difference.
You can get dual exhaust conversions fairly cheap and you can get take off mustang GT exhaust for very reasonable prices. That's really easy to install. I suppose a cold air pipe would help a tiny bit, also some underdrive pulleys will free up a few horsepower. If i were you there are two things that would be a MUST even though they may cost a little more: rear-end gears (4.10:1 for an automatic, 3.73:1 for a manual transmission) and also a higher stall torque converter (if you have an auto), which many manufacturers have support staff ready to recommend which one is right for you. Both of these aren't too hard to do, but require knowledge of what you're doing to do it. Also they won't effect the way your car runs, although they may drop mileage down a little bit (not a whole lot though). Also if you feel like it maybe a JET or POWERCHIPS computer chip may add a few horsepower as well. Basically i would say GET THE GEARS, they make a huge difference in the feel of any car. If you have an auto, the higher stall converter helps put the engine in the power band faster and pulls the car where it makes torque instead of lagging behind. |
Well..
Insurance for a svt or a convertable gt is .. $7000 a year in nj.
This is at the age of 28 mind you. The insurance is more than the car payments. I can take the v6 and mod it with parts from a rolled svt in about a year, but I wanted to add a little kick to it right now. What is they are saying about the air silencer? And the cats? People say I should get two high flows, but then I would not pass emmissions, so I need device a pal told me that allows me to dial in an engine, and get any emmision I want if I set it to that level. I got the car for $8000 with 20,000 miles on it in an area where a GT with 50,000 goes for $14-16,000 and a new car is $32,000-$24,000. I'd rather take the v6 and redo it with $10,000 and have super low insurance and great custom performance. So the air, exhaust, and chip right? Gears I will get done asap. thanks for having patience with a newbie |
