Exclamation 3.8 to 351W conversion

i currently had the stock 3.8 i was rebuilding stolen, so i decided to look for the silver lining and throw in a windsor instead, but now i need to know what it is that i can retain and what wont work with the windsor, basically what can i toss in the garbage?
Ive been everywhere trying to find out and it is harder than you might think.
any leads would be great.

I am looking to do the same. You need different rearend gears, suspison, and engine mounts. You can use the same manual transmisson if you want but you need different fly wheel and clutch. New radiator and fan. there is not much you can keep. If you keep the same rear gears when you press the gas pedal for the first time you will ripp them up. Go with a 3.55 if you are supercharging or 3.73, 4.11 if you are natural.

lets see the car is an 84 mustang convertible, it had the 3.8/auto into a 7.5 rear. Both the tranny and engine were stolen. I wanted to use a fuel injected 351 from a late model f150 with an AOD. The windsor just seemed to make good use of both displacement and ease of swap in a fox-body mustang.
Would the wiring harness from a 3.8 work for the 351???
id like to know for sure, but i dont think so.

My first suggestion would be to drop the AOD. I've heard that they are not too reliable in high stress situations like racing, and are quirky and difficult to maintain. I'm always open to persuasion differently though. Some basic info: since you are in california, you must maintain the emissions controls if you are planning to run on the street(duh!). Consequently, you will at least need to change the ECM and EPROM to one for a 5.7. I think the older ford full size trucks like the f250 + had 5.7's in them. I suggest doing some research with your local Ford Parts department or your favorite auto parts store. Also, I know hi-po shops make hi-po emissions components to maintain legal street status. Here on the east coast there's a chain called supershops that carries or can get info on racing and high performance emission stuff. Hope this spawns some ideas.

I know the 95 XLT f150 (with extendedcab) had a 5.8 litre 351 in them
