auto trans problem

Ok...not a Mustang question but close...

My Mom has a 97 Ranger 4cyl/automatic. Nice truck, runs great, etc etc. Only problem is when she shifts into drive there is a significant delay before it engages. The fluid level was not reading on the stick so her boyfriend filled it, but it still happens. Oh, they say it only happens when cold.

The truck had been sitting for about 6-8 months. Could the valving be gummed up and just need a flush or do you think this is more serious than that?

Thanks,

Rich D.

This will make 2 of us.
I'm having the identical problem with my
79 Mustang, not sure if it's a C3 or C4 tranny.
Fluid is up, no leaks, but cold it takes maybe 20 seconds
or better. After warm up you would'nt know there was a problem.
doesnt seem to be slipping either.
