Default Code A

New to the mustang world so I'm sure I'll ask many questions before I'm able to start giving any answers so let me say thanks ahead of time. My question this time is: I just bought a 65 fb 289 car which is a code A car. What exactly does the code A stand for and is it a rare or common code car? I'm sure I'll have more questions before this is all said and done.

A-Code is the engine designation and the vin# of your engine.
I believe the A code is the 225 horse challenger motor which is one step below the coveted K-code 271hp engine.

Nice car.

A-Code.

By the begining of the 1965 production year, the D-Code (Also a 289 4 barrel, lower compresion though) was replaced by the A-code. A 289 with a 4 barrerl(Auto lite 4100 series) carb putting out 225 Hp.

A-code designation was used from 1965 till the last 289's in 1967. 225 HP @ 4800 Rpm. 305 ft-lbs @ 3200 RPM.
