1995 Ford Mustange runs when it wants to
Help I am ready to push my 1995 Ford GT 5.0L over a cliff. Because recently I have been having a problem with the car stalling. The car runs fine in the mourning when it is cold and I can make it all the way to work (Approximately 12 miles). When I go back to the car several hours later it will not start (but it will turn over). Then I can wait another 30 min and the car starts right up. I replaced the ignition module and the car ran for about 5 days before stalling again. The fuel pump appears to be working fine. Can anyone help?

I had a friend in Cali that had this problem and his ignition module kept shorting out. Even though you just replaced it, see if you can get it tested at a Ford dealership or have someone run the codes and see what you get. good luck. I have also heard ignition coils going bad and won't spark when hot, needing an extended amount of cooling time.

I just replaced my fuel pump again after having the same problem. The outlet of my fuel pump had cracked and would only produce 25 psi of fuel pressure. I could drive the car when it was cold or at 75 MPH but much less than that the fuel in the fuel lines boiled and made the car barely drivable and basically impossible to fire up when hot.

I bet it is the Hall Effect sensor inside the distributor. Ive had the same problem on my '93 before - no start when hot, just mine would die when going down the road. Ford calls this part a stator and they had it in stock for my car, about $70. The only problem is that to change it you have to press the gear off the distributor with a press. If not you could just replace the whole distributor. I hope this helps.

engine ground
make sure the engine ground it not connected to aluminum...it needs to be a non aluminum grounding surface...when the aluminum gets hot it does not act as a ground until it cools off.....this may not be your problem but i was told this once

Have you changed the cam, injectors, and or MAF??? These three things can cause the computer to hate to idle and hot start.

Mine had the same problem, after tonnes of work, it was the pickup in the distributor (sometimes called the distributor point)
I'll bet you that's what it is if your fuel pump and TFI module are working fine, and your coil works on someone else's car... |

1995 Ford Mustang that Runs when it once to
I appreciate all the assistance that I received when trying to fix my car. It turned out to be the pick-up coil in the distributor.

attn pkrwud??
Good stuff... for some stupid reason, if you own a 94-95 5.0, and your car cuts out like that, 99% of the time its the pickup in the distributor...
Don't ask me why, pkrwud, maybe he might know something about the design????? but either way, you've got it running, glad to hear it !!! |
