20 foot burn out in a ford taurus
A couple of days ago I bought a 1987 ford tarus. So then after I got the title transfered and all that other **** , I took it out to see if it had any balls. So I pull up to a stop sign and there is a little bit of gravel right by it... So I mash the gas pettal all the way down and it starts spining pretty good then when it shifted into second gear it just kept spinning down the road for about 20 feet. Then i had to stop at another stop sign and then I went to go and the car started to go then didnt. My dad says I blew the tranny and clutches.. any one have any ideas what happened??
thanks. |

No idea on problem, but if you were gonna blow the damn thing up, you could have gotten it on tape, I had an 89 taurus wagon that could barely chirp the tires, would like to see that.

If "chevy sucks balls", why did your ford blow up? You must have been beaten quite a few times by a chevy to hate them so much as to use THAT as your username.

Well I don't think you have to have a fast car to be a ford fan and chevy/import hater. Personally I kinda like chevy alittle but If I put ricers suck and my 87 Lincoln coult not beat an accord does that make me wrong for having the name? I could do a much better burnout than an accord even if it does beat me.

No offense but unless it was an SHO I don't quite belive your story, I had a 90 taurus sedan and that thing could hardly chirp the tires flooring it and turning sharply! I blew out the tranny too and when you step on the gas it will just rev and not go anywhere and sometimes catch and start going...

Hate to be harsh here, but I 've owned some stock 5.0's that wouldn't grab second more than 5 feet or so....I think you are sharing a fairytale with us all

My guess is that your tranny is shot. The AXOD is nortious for being a POS during the 89-91 years. I think they use plastic bushings and when you do a filter/fluid change they dry out and the trans will crap out not too long after that. It's also an expensive rebuild because is all electronic and not hydr. controled. Good luck its about 1100-1500 to rebuild those trannys.

I had a 267 prasienne that wouldn't spin the tires if it's life depended on it. All of a sudden it would smoke the tires, a few days later I was putting in a convertor. Seems since the old one was smoked it would stall up. You might want to look into that.

I believe you because at my last job i neutral dropped the company taurus quite often and once you get the tires spinning and the rpm's up you can go awhile. I got my '83 zephyr with a 200-6 (total slug) to do a badass smoke show because i started on some sand/gravel in the road and i put a hole in the asphalt (power braking). These were one time deals because it was very hard to do and i was never able to repeat them. I take it you didn't absolutely smoke the tires but i can believe you peeled out for 20 feet. And yes, you probably destroyed the trans.

Hehe.. I have an 87 Taurus with the 3.0 and I'd be hard pressed to lay a patch in that thing on anything BUT gravel. I doubt the tranny would survive.. it seems a little rickety.

The most badass burnout I've ever done was with my '88 LX 2.3L A4LD auto. It had 88hp and wouldn't spin it's tires if it's life depended on it. In this one instance, unrepeatable dispite my best efforts, I was on a semi wet road with a little debris at a stop sign. I had the turbines with 225/60 VR15 Eagles on it, and I did a little brake stand. As I let off the brakes all the sudden both back tires broke loose on the dirt and rock, there was smoke just piling off the back tires until the car hit 40mph. All the way through the intersection and another 20ft or so.
There were some guys and girls at the gas station right across and they watched my car do that slack jawed. Hehe, I'm so guessing they thought I had a 5.0. So I'd have to say I've seen freak instances of tire burning. |

I remember when I had my 86 Cougar with the 3.8, I could only spin the wheels in a puddle while powerbraking. Only time I ever did a mild wheel spin on dry ground is when the stupid thing was dying on me and I had to step on gas and shift into neutral so it would not stall.I don't even have to powerbrake hard and I can spin the wheels on the Lincoln. I don't have any speed but at least I got torque.
