Default Exhaust question

I got a stock engine on my 88 GT, but I want to install a costumized exhaust, can I make 3" the whole exhaust, s you all know it's all ready 2.5".

In many cases if the exhaust is too big you lose bottom end torque. If you have a cam and head work its a different story, other wise save your money for some other mod like lower gears, if you dont allready have em.
