low oil pressure
I looked at a 66 Ford truck this weekend, it had a 460 out of a Lincoln. It has very low oil press. 10psi at a idle and 25 psi driving it down the road.I think it should have more than that. The guy selling the truck said it was low because of big oil passages. I was wanting to know what you guys think about this.He wants $2250 for the truck.Other than the low oil pressure, and needing brakes the truck is in real good shape. Thanks Gary

That low of oil pressure with a gauge you is a kiss of death. Low pressure like that could mean a spun bearing which may have damaged the crank. The low pressure could be a bad oil pump but I doubt it. If you can pull the oil filter and cut it open - spun bearings will show metal debris. If you already bought it put STP it and drive carefully till it dies - or rebuild it.
Keep shopping. Good luck. |
