Ok, I give up. What can I do if anything, to boost the performance of my LX 4-banger. I do not want to scarp it. It runs GREAT, just not enough power for me.I just put a new transmission in it, and everything runs great. I just need/want more power. Anything I can do for arounf $500-$1000?

There's not a whole lot. the only thing you can do is get a K&N filter and take the air silencer off. I've looked every where and thats all i found.

The best bang for the buck===GEARS! 3.73s or 4.10s. And as others stated a K&N and complete tuneup. Hope this helps.

Ah I guess you folks haven't found much for the 2.3L. There's lots of stuff you can do, for $500-$1000! I'll just name a few things: bigger cat-back exhaust and high flow cats, header (Pacesetter makes a smog-legal one), cam, head work (Esslinger will port & polish your iron head and install big valves for $739, and they have an aluminum head for $1000 which offers 25 hp over stock and 25 lbs less weight), porting work on the intake, you could even go so far as boring or stroking (or both) your engine, or even a complete turbo swap (you can do this for $1000 or less)....plus there's always the old standbys that have already been mentioned like a K&N and gears, plus ram/cold air induction helps too. Also lightening up the weight in the car can help a lot.

Racer Walsh has lots of 4 cyl Ford racing stuff. Heads, cams, pistons, headers, etc. For under $500.00 you could install a 50-75 HP shot of nitrous.

Damned good question. Some good answers also. I am doing a 2.3 Turbo swap later this year. Check your local wrecking yards I just aquired a complete 84 T-bird 2.3 turbo coupe engine for $275. This is probably the best and least expensive way to go, HP to dollar ratio, if you would like to keep the gas miliage of the 4 banger and still get more power.

I've got a 1990 2.3L. If I got a Turbo Charged 2.3 engine is there anything special you have to do to swap it? Or will it just hook up?
THanks
