Overdrive
I'm running a C4 tranny with 3.55 gears, i want better freeway rpms so I'm converting to an overdrive. My friend's brother has a overdrive with a computer he was gonna stick in his 66. Now my question is, what is the computer for(shift electricly?) and how much harder will it be to install. Also, he is selling it all for $600, is that too much?
I know i dont have many details, but i wanna know what im gettin into before i get too deep. Any info is helpful on converting to an overdrive. Thanks ------------------ 68 fastback modified 289, C4, 3.55 gears, 2 chamber flomaster, GT look-a-like, lowered, blue head lights, blue blinkers, blue side makers, blue turn indicaters on hood, blue interior lights, blue map lights, blue liscense plate light, blue back-up lights(rewired the blink with the blinkers), blue alarm light, and blue strobe light attached to the front 1 1/8" sway bar |

It is a easy swap to a AOD.
http://www.windsor-fox.com for the cross member and yoke and what ever else you need. Always remember to re-balance the AOD flex plate to 28.2 oz<thats what older motors need) The AOD plate is 50. oz's. Your motor will vibrate very bad and the rear bearings will fail if you dont. The best AOD's are 89-93's. These years have all of the revisions making them better than the others. I just picked up a 92 AOD w/converter and shifter etc, for $200.00, of course used. I usually pick up a core for about $150.00-250.00 from the yard. A couple of hundred dollars later and its new again. $600.00 is steep for a used trans, unless it has been rebuilt recently with performance parts. Get the converter with it !! Hope this helps any. |

You can bolt up an AOD to your car with very little problem. I did it to my 68 FB. If it has an ECM, and it is FORD it is probably an AODE. This trans. needs an ECM to operate. It controls all the shifting.

It should handle that HP. Unless you are a Banzi driver and have your foot in it all the time.
Weak points, stock the is, are the O/D band and the two piece input shaft. But, if memory serves me, I think the AODE already has the 2 inch O/D band. |
