Post New 99 V6

Buddy just bought one and wants me to help him up the power. Can't seem to find a K&N at local parts stores yet. Do they come with a 7.5" rear end? Can you get gears? Pulleys? Anything else?

Hmm don't know about the rear-end? I doubt it will be a 7.5" seems to small for a 99 and what about that IRS?

The 99V6 has the 7.5 rear end, should be able to get gears for it no prob... ASP has yet to release the pulleys for the 99, and depending on your area, it may be easier to order the K&N. For more info, check out the message board over at www.v6power.com...

The V-8s have 8.8 inch rears, which are a bolt in fit for the V-6.

Check the '94~'95 5.0 filter. My '95 3.8 used the same filter as the 5.0.

One of the dealer mechanics said that the 8.8 won't just bolt it, but that the whole rear end must be changed (on the '99s). Whussup?

Dealer mechanics frequently don't know what they are talking about. Or you may have asked the wrong question. According to everything I have read, Ford went to great pains to design the Cobra IRS so that it would fit a standard Mustang chassis, IOW, it is supposed to fit with no modifications to the chassis. It hardly makes sense for them to then turn around and design a new V6 chassis that will no longer accept the V8 rear axle.

Question

You are the only person who has claimed the rear end is not a 7.5 -- have you actually worked on one?
Vortech actually recommends putting the '98 kit on the '99? What about the higher compression and other changes?

YES I HAVE WORKED ON THE NEW 99 MUSTANG V6, I AM A FORD TECHNICIAN, VORTECHS SUPERCHARGER
FROM 98 WILL BOLT UP AND WORK FINE, THE 99 V6 HAS A STRONGER BLOCK AND STRONGER HEADS,THERE AGAIN IS VARY LITTEL CHANGED ON THE NEW V6 FROM 98 EXCEPT THE BLOCK AND THE HEADS AND THE INTAKE AND STRATAGIES IN THE P.C.M.. I MAY BE THE FIRST TO SAY THIS ABOUT THE 99 V6, BUT ANYONE CAN FIND OUT ABOUT THE NEW MUSTANGS BY ASKING A SALESMAN AT THE LOCAL DEALER OR A TECH IF THEY ARE PROPERLY VERSED ON THE NEW MUSTANG DESIGN, FORD HAS NOT USED THE 7.5 REAR END IN A MUSTANG FOR A LONG TIME AND THEY HAVE NOT STARTED YET.

My 98 3.8 has a 7.5" rear end. I heard that all 94-98 3.8 have a 7.5. Also, have they figured out a way to increase fuel pressure on the 99. It doesn't have return fuel lines, so a FMU doesn't work.

don't know about the 99's, but ford used the 7.5 rear end on the v-6 models up to 98.

My fiancee owns a bright yellow '99 V6, and i just went and stuck my head up its ass. It has a 7.5. And I called Morana Racing, in Canada, and he said that the '99 has a good head design and he just bought one to see what he can do with porting, because he's not sure yet what difference he can make since the heads are so different from the '98 and earlier. I told him that her car ran 16.7's at 83 (without shifting it myself for consistency in bracket), and he said with dual exhaust, gears, and a 2800 rpm converter, it should run very low 15's or high 14's. Not bad.
The number for Morana, by the way, is (416)412-2815. He has ported heads, available with bigger valves (up to 2.02, 1.60), custom grind cams, roller rockers (1.73 and 1.8 ratio), can port intakes, and all sorts of other stuff. He works on Super Coupes, too.
Oh, and I guess Panama was right, dealer mechanics really don't know what they're talking about.
