Post Normal Temp gauge position

Where is the normal operating position for a 97 v6 mustang, is it

1) straight up at R of "NORMAL" on the gauge
2) between M and A of "NORMAL" on the gauge
3) between A and L of "NORMAL" on the gauge

How much does it move, any help is appreciated. Ive only had the car a month. I had a 78 mustang II and it overheated before i traded it

thanks
