Post 3000 stall torque converter

I have an '86 5.0 convertible that i want to use a C-4 with. The 3000 stall that I got separately came with directions to buy all these new parts, which I have but the starter will not hit the flywheel close enough to hit the flywheel. I tried tons of starters so do I have to just get a different flywheel?

Hang on,hope this does not confuse us.

Ford made two flexplates,a 157 tooth and a 164 tooth wheel. Maybe the larger will work for you.

Make sure which ever plate is used it is balanced at 50 onces, which is the correct balance for your motor. A 50 oz weight will cover 3/4 of the plate. The older is about have as much looking. Pre-80's-28.2oz//Post-80's-50oz.

I ran into the oposite once. The plate I had was too big. Early C-4's had a smaller bellhousing.

Hope this helped. MII
