Overheating Issues
Allright here's my problem, recently my stang has been running a little hot, but it only does it when I'm idling and when its 80 degrees or warmer, when I start driving it will go back down. I have a 180 degree thermostat that's new, water pump is 2 yrs old, and the radiator is in good condition. I never had a problem with my water temp. before. I have a Auto Meter gauge so I know that isn't my problem, also, my engine seems to miss a little once the coolant is overheated, could it be an electrical short or not?

How's your fan clutch doing? It might be shot. Grab the fan and try to spin it. If it spins freely then you need to replace the clutch. It shouldn't spin but just a little. Not freely, though.

I have a flex fan in there now, it's been on a few months, should I put the old clutch fan back on and try it? The flex fan seems to be blowing a good bit of air.

There are only two things that will usually add up to you overheating when stopped, but not overheating when you are crusin.
#1 Water Pump #2 Fan Assembly. (If you've got the flex fan, you can pretty much throw that one out the window.) Putting that aside, what is a little hot? Are you going off the factory gauges, or do you have a real temp gauge? |

try this..
Having the car ice cold turn it on and remove the radiator cap. look at the water very carefully for any sorta movements and bubbles. If the water does not look like its circulating, then you probably have a clogged up radiator. If the water shows bubbles maybe you have a blown head gasket. squeze the top radiator hose to see or feel any sorta of pressure going back to the water pump. What I would do if I was you... I would completely drain that water through the drain plug and use a hose with compressed water to clean through. |
