Do a search for esslinger endineering. They are the ones that made the head for SVO back when they supported the 4 cylinder. They also have al kinds of other stuff.

They've got some parts for the 4 bangers. Hope this helps.

Daniel.

You can also get walker exhaust systems for 2.3L's off of the turbo 4 cylinder SVO mustangs from '84 to '86. '86 SVO's used a single to dual exhaust system with a Y-pipe that splits into two outlets. I believe you can buy the Y-pipe that goes back to the cat-back exhaust area, and add the intermediate tubes and tailpipes with whatever mufflers you want. You'll get the cool chrome dual outlet tips as well. You can also go to some exhaust shops and get mandrel bent (flows 35% better than dimple-bent exhaust) exhaust made specifically for your car.

If you want to go fast, the easiest way is to find a '87-'88 thunderbird turbo coupe, '84-'86 Mustang SVO, '84 Mustang Turbo 4 cylinder, or any Merkur XR4Ti (German Ford that has turbo 2.3L) for a turbo/engine swap. these cars typically have good transmissions for the turbo engine (geared steeper for better takeoff) and have all the parts necessary. The '86 Mustang SVO 2.3L turbo put out 200 horsepower intercooled, which is a lot for a 4 cylinder in that era.
As mentioned Esslinger Engineering and Racer Walsh have everything engine related you could want, including 2.5L stroker kits, Camshafts, etc. etc.

Good luck on your new stang!

dan- could u check the site address i clicked it and it didnt work thanx man......

84lx- those r good car suggestions but in canada svo's r hard to come by and as of rite now i cant afford to buy an engine if n e thing i was thinking of getting the engine from a lincoln mark 7 or 8 and stuffing it in....

digital3.3 12-29-2002 05:28 AM

where in canada you from? i'm from bc and there are quite a few svo's kicking around.

lilmustang boy 12-29-2002 10:34 PM

im in ontario.... and havent seen many.... but then again i havent looked in the toronto ads.... i could look but i think i mite go for a V6 or V8 if i can find one

BLACK85GT 12-30-2002 10:18 PM

If you find an SVO why not just keep the SVO? Its worth more than an lx and it allready has all the suspension. As far as putting in a v8, sometimes it is just cheaper, and much simpler to buy a v8 car. I had a 4 cylinder stang when i was 18 and went through the same thing of wanting a v8 in it, but soon realized might as well get a GT.

Probably the only "cheap" way to fix up a 4 cylinder car is to find a wrecked V8/turbo donor. Also to get more power, finding a junked thunderbird turbo coupe is probably the cheapest way, thunderbirds tend to be very inexpensive.
Other than that just buying the car you want is much less expensive.

if i did find an svo and it was in good shape i wood keep it.... but if it was in terrible shape the engine would come out of it...

Big-T 04-18-2003 07:49 PM

You can just swap in a complete turbo engine from a Merkur, T-Bird, or other Fords that had them. This is a much better solution than putting a turbo on your current engine. Check out www.turboford.org for all the info you need, there's a great message board with a bunch of great turbo experience.

lilmustang boy 04-18-2003 09:46 PM

r they 4 cylinder engines?

Big-T 04-18-2003 10:02 PM

Yup! Basically they are completely identical engines, just with forged pistons, and other very minor differences. It's just much easier to swap in a complete setup than to try to put a turbo on your existing engine - and you really should have forged pistons with a turbo anyway.

lilmustang boy 04-18-2003 11:38 PM

ok kewl ill have to look into one...... what about headers and pipes n e good ones out there? n e that wont give me a ricer sound either?

Big-T 04-19-2003 05:04 PM

You can actually get great results by porting the factory pieces. Again, turboford.org is a great resource to learn more. Check out the forums.

lilmustang boy 04-20-2003 01:58 PM

what do u mean by porting them? cutting material out from the inside of the headers? but wood that not make them waeker and more likely to get damaged when hot?

Big-T 04-20-2003 04:43 PM

Yes, no, and maybe. As always, it depends. You can achieve substantial improvement by porting (yes, like you described) heads, manifold, etc. without destroying them. The guys at Turboford.org can help you with more detailed advice on this stuff. Some people on there sell pieces already ported for very decent prices, and certainly much cheaper than buying headers and stuff like that new.
