2.3 to 5.0 swap
I have a 84 2.3 turbo gt rag top that I am selling
buyers want to know if 5.0 will fit and with how much difficulty one buyer was told it would cost $2000 to put his 5.0 in the car sounds a little steep to me anyone know? |
Clad,
That does sounds like a whole lot of dough for a 5.0. The only way that it would cost that is if he paid someone to do it. He could probably puchase a practically new engine for a little over 2000. He would need to replace the tranny, which he could get from a wrecking yard for 100-150, and maybe strengthen up the rear axle. I truthfully don't know about the rear axle, because I don't know the stats of your out-put shaft in comparision to the output on a 5.0. --Mustfreak |
$2000.00 is probably on the low side to convert to EFI 5.0, unless you can do a lot of the work yourself. You will need engine, wiring harness, computer, transmission, exhaust system. Make an estimate and then double it. Converting to carbed 302 may be cheaper, but you could probably beat the carbed 302 power with the Turbo 2.3 for the same money. MM&FF recently did series on both making a Turbo 2.3 bark and converting to 5.0.
