gas on a 3.73 rear
 

For thoughs that own 3.73 gears how much gas milage did you lose when switching to them? I have a slow 94 6 cycl. I want to put 3.73 in the rear but do not want to lose that much gas milage.

With your gearing now (2.73) your gas mileage is probably:

City; 18-19
Highway; 28
Combined; 22

With 3.73's
City; 15
Highway; 23
Combined; 17-18

You will probably find 3.73s a bit steep for the 3.8 V6. Gas mileage will probably improve around town and clutch life should increase dramatically if you do much stop and go traffic jam driving. Think about 3.45s if you keep the stock rear or 3.55 if you upgrade to an 8.8. One point that most people don't consider when installing gears in V6s is that the stock rear is an open differential and you are going to have a traction problem with lower gears and an open diff.

3.73's would be perfect for a v6, the car will 'come alive'. I know a bunch of people that have them and they don't know how they got along without them. Though, if you do alot of highway traveling they may not be right for you (revs a bit higher).
