exhaust

Expanding on my previous exhaust question...

I just purchased a 3.8L V6 2000 Mustang. My plans are to install a Two Chamber Flowmaster
exhaust in the near future. My question is: will I get a maximum horsepower gain along with good sound by replacing my mufler and pipes alone, or should I replace my headers and cats as well. As I understand, Ford's new stock exhaust system minimizes backpressure and provides more of the hidden horsepower.

Good tips are always welcome.

Ford does take some steps to minimize back pressure, but BE CAREFUL. Backpressure is critical for power in the low RPMs. Replacing the whole exhaust will develop massive power in the 3000+ RPM range, but you will actually find there is a LOSS of HP and torque due to the lack of backpressure.
The best thing is just a cat-back system, and Pace Setter's V-6 adaptor. Try www.pacesetterexhaust.com for more info.
