Post Rear main seal on 87 2.3L

How difficult, what tools needed, and what costs involved?

It's leaking about 4L/week now.

Talking

The seal itself is not expensive, about $10 at any parts store. It is a one piece rubber coated metal seal and can be removed with a small flathead screwdriver or a small punch that has a 90 degree bend (this is what I use). The PITA (Pain In The A--) is getting to it. You must remove the tranny. I recommend if you have a manual you also replace the pilot bearing, clutch assembly, throwout bearing, and have your flywheel turned at the same time if you have any amount of mileage on it after the leak started. Likelihood is oil has been slung onto the clutch plate and has glazed it, therefore it's best to replace it now while you have it apart; I asure you you won't want to do this again soon! However, the savings on doing it yourself will help you with other projects you have on the fire. Hope this helps.
