Service engine soon!
My "service engine light" just came on. I won't pretend to know a lot about cars (because I don't). Which also means I don't trust Mechanics. I always feel like I'm gonna get screwed when I bring my car in for service. ANyways, it's a 2001 GT. I haven't had any mods done to the engine or exhaust. It's all stock. I'm not due for an oil change, but I did notice that the oil level is at the minimum on the dip stick. Could a low oil level trigger the service engine light. If I do have to take the car in for service, should I take it to a Ford dealership, or a small service station. I can't tkae it to the dealership I bought it at because I moved out of state (it's not under warranty anymore anyway).

If you have an Auto Zone store near you, they will check the codes for free. That will give you a start.
It could be as simple as a loose gas cap, to something more serious. I'd try to find an independent shop with a good reputation as opposed to the dealer.
