1996/7 V6 Mustang Question
Hey Mustang guys. A buddy of mine has either a 1996 or 97 V6 Mustang with a standard. What are these capable of running in the quarter mile stock? I saw that article in HRM - so I know they got potential... but this one is stock. I think our race will come down to the driver, but I wanna have an idea before we head up to the drags.
Any info would be greatly appreciated guys, Niko |

They are not too fast. What do you drive? If it is a Neon you are in BIG trouble. I had my sisters 94 V6 and A decked out neon pulled up next to me at a light. The other lanes light turned red so he gunned it and took off about a sec later our light turned green but he was already through the intersection. So I let the pony have it and caught him ten feet past the intercention and blew by him. Mad him feel bad that he had a HUGE headstart and it took me Less than two secs to get a whole car ahead of him. A year later I bought one and Mine will kill my sisters. So good luck.

What do you mean by not too fast? My Neon will be doing 14's this season - I think I can hold my own but I wasn't sure. I bet you raced an automatic Neon - which mine is at the moment. The 5 speed Neons are much faster (at least 1.5 seconds) - which is why I'm swapping trannies this season. As far as "all decked out" goes - I think that Neon dude wasted some money .

If you are running 14s you are well faster than the Mustang. What else you have on that car? I do not know much about neons excepted I beat that one and caused another on to flip about 6 times. (not really but I am getting charged for it and will have to pay for the bad driver female to get a new one. Well good luck racing.

Mods right now: cold air intake (Iceman) and a glasspack (Thrush) and some track day weight redux. That's good for 16.8 with my automatic. This season I will have the 5 speed, crane #14 cam, underdrive pulley, cam gear, and drag radials most likely.

Niko , the 96-98 v6's came with only 150hp, and they weigh 3200lbs. They're not fast stock, but if you run a 16.8, you'll probably lose. It'll be close though. Now, when you're in the high 14's you would have no trouble with even the highly modified 94-98 v6's.
The brand new stang v6's have 193hp stock, so they're a different story. Watch out for them. Good luck in your race, let us know what happens.
