6 cyl pony question
I can buy a 1996 mustang convert that has engine prob's for a low price. How hard would it be to convert to gt engine and what other parts do gt's have that this 6 cyl would not have?

Brakes, suspinsion, Tranny are all the same from a GT to a V6. The v6 just has crappier parts but they are interchangerable as far as the tranny goes. If you are looking at putting an engine in it you better get the car for under $1000. Because by the time you do engine and everything you could have saved money and time by buying a new 96-98 GT. Around here Convert Cobra's 96-98 go for under 10,000.

I would be lookin at puttin a 4.6 unless a 5.0 would interchange with that year.

Well, if I'm remembering right, the v-6's and the 5.0's share the same crossmember (change motor mounts, of course), even in that year I think. Something else to bring up is that the v- five speeds will bolt up to a 5.0, but don't expect them to last very long. The componets in them aren't as stong as the 5.0 5spd's. Like godstang said, stuff like brakes need to be changed. So would springs, I think (leaving the v-6er's on would be a cheap way to get a lowrider). The fuel pumps are the same, but not sure. You might want to ask godstang about that one. I'm thinking that the old fox bodies you have to change over to v8 brake and fuel lines. I'm not sure about that on the sn95 cars.

If i were you, i'd just buy a V8 stang with engine problems and fix the engine problem instead. The GT's had stiffer suspension, better brakes, better cooling system, stronger rear axle/transmisison, etc. etc. It would cost you a fortune to try and swap it over to a 4.6L, a 5.0L wouldn't be bad, but unless you had another V8 donor car it would probably cost you AT LEAST 3,000 to buy the parts to swap over unless you found a ridiculously good deal.

The brakes on the 94-98 GT are the same as the V6. They do not get better till you get the cobra. Fuel pump is fine for the swap. You will need a different Computer in the Engine Swap. A different rearend 7.5 is stock go up to a 8.8. If you are putting in a 4.6 you will need a different tranny and drive axle. They use the t-45 in 96-98.
I agree with 84lx89gt. Buy a hurt v8 and fix it. It will save you so much money. The money you put into replaceing the enigine you could put into a v8 to make it even faster. Good luck man. I hope this is not too confusing.
