4 cyl stangs
hello evry one.
how fast are the 4 cyl mustangs in stock form. like what kind of ET's do they run. and what kind of engines do they come in. I know they have 2.3 cyl but do they have anything ellse. thanks ford kid |

in stock n/a form the 2.3L 4cyl mustang is quite slow. not to sure of how slow, but id have to quess 19's+ in the 1/4 mile, probably more, but like i said, not sure, what i do know is they are a 2.3 SOHC makin 88hp in 87 to 90 and i believe that was upped to 100-110 in 91 or 92. they get good gas mileage, , and are fun in the winter, i used to have an 88 5spd, which my brother has now. But there is also the SVO mustang which was a 2.3 turbo, those things were pretty quick, had like 220-225hp in 86, and i saw them running in the 14's stock, so i guess it all depends on what your lookin at.

the 83 2.3L n/a had 88hp and 118ft/lb tq and had a 1bbl carb

well if you really want a four cylinder mustang any of the turbo ones are fairly quick the 86 svo being one of them, but u can also buy a decent 5.0 v8

well the reason I was looking for 4cyl stang was becouse I am loking for A daily driver(somthing good on gas) while I pull the engine out of my 66. I would love to have A 5.0 but I can't afford to have 2 stang that eat gas.

As far as quarter mile times let me put it this way. I have the slowest v6 mustang in the world and I still beat a 2.3L 4 by about an 1/8 mile last time I was at the strip. I am guessing he ran between 19 and 21 secs. But gas milage wise they are the best. My buddy has one he uses to go to college with. Has tons of miles and still runs and looks good.

I bought a 2.3 stang brand new in 1985. I have to say it was the best car i ever had. I beat the crap out of it and it never, ever gave me any problems, and it was automatic. It went 170,000 miles and i never even took the valve cover off for any reason. It still ran fine when i sold it. I upgraded to a Gt 5.0 and had nothing but problems. lol. An SVO turbo mustang is a different story though. They were not as reliable. Had lots of friends that had em. They can be finnicky, but are worth alot of money because they are more rare.

I used to neutral drop mine all the time. and the damn trans never broke. The only auto car i had that went that many miles without a tranny rebuild.

My first Mustang I bought was a 2.3 hatchback. In stock form they can be a bit slow. With a few simple modifications such as exhaust and intake along with some tuning, they can be quick. Not fast.....quick. The 2.3's make awesome daily drivers and the motors in them are very tough. If you do want a daily driven car that'll get good gas mileage then definatly get one. I'd suggest a 91-93 because factory modifications were done to up the HP slightly. Try and find a notchback....... |

well now the situation has changed. I am not pulling the motor to rebuild it infact the insurance is taking my car.(because off the accident I hade about 3 weeks ago) any ways so now it's time to start looking for A new stang. unfortinatly my dad wont let me got A 5.0 he says that the rear wheels slip out to easily. so now the question is do any of you guys know of A site on the internet to look at classic cars( stangs) for sale. autotrader.com doesn't go back fare anough. so is there anything ellse.

i think its all in how you drive it as to whether the rear end will slip out on you. i know alot of ppl with older mustangs(69 coupe, and a 70 mach 1) that the rear end slips out on pretty easy. in the rain if you tromp it, sure its gonna go nuts, you just gotta have a head on your shoulder and take care when driving. also when its dry if you get on to it, just dont rev it up and dump it, launch it properly and it shouldnt go out on you to bad, at least no in stock form. im not sure with heavily modded cars how they react cause i never drove one, but i know with my dads stang it runs well into the 13's and i have no prob keepin it straight, thats just what i think about the rear end slippin out. then again i know i guy whose stang runs 14's and he cant keep it straight, so your dad might be right, but from what i have experienced you shouldnt have a major problem fordkid

i have a 2.3 and it will pull pretty good as far as im concerned...
u can lite ur tires up if u wanted and i have seen it happen............ but with those engine u can pull 400+ ponies (no pun intended) out of them

If you want to kind of trick your dad you can buy a Lincoln Mark VII LSC, which is basically a luxury mustang (225hp 5.0L w/AOD trans) or buy a thunderbird ('83 to '88 are fox body, as well as hideous '81-'82 box models) or some other fox body ford if you want to bolt on 5.0L mustang parts. Basically ANY V8 car with limited slip will kick the rear end out and i'd say trucks are way worse than mustangs because you can regain control easier with a mustang than a 70/30 weight ratio truck.
I'd say a steady foot controls most of rear end kicking out unless it's on ice. If you bought a Mark VII you could tell him there's alot more weight in the rear and it's heavier (which it is). Just some ideas I can't think of a classic car that doesn't kick the rearend out with any kind of power, so i can't really help you out there. Maybe you can convince him to let you have a 351C Torino or something Good luck on your car hunting.
