Default K&N air filters

I have a 1995 Mustang V6. I put a K&N air filter in about six months ago. I got a check engine light, took the car to a local Ford dealer who said they do not recomend the use of the K&N filters. They said they may allow the clogging of the mass air flow senser. Is this true? Thanks Bill Mc
