Can I cut my springs to lower my 1889 2.3l ?
Hello All. I'm sure someone has asked this before and I know that cutting springs is not recomended. But can I cut my stock springs on my 1989 2.3l mustang and have them still fit or seat properly into my stock suspension. I'm thinking of around 1.5 to 2 inch drop. It's difficult to find lowering springs for a 2.3l mustang here in Canada. I don't want to ship springs half way around the world $$$ for my rusty beater. Although I like my rust bucket. I don't plan on racing it. My motivation is purely looks.
I don't want the car to be dangerous as it's a daily driver. THANKS! |

you could try cutting them, i forget if the 2.3L springs are linear or variable rate though. If they're variable rate, the ride quality will screw up. Also, you'll have to experiment with how much coil you take off, if you cut off 1.5" from the coil it'll end up lowering it much more. I'd probably start with maybe .5" and see. if it's just for looks and you don't plan on racing the thing, hell why not. Just remember it won't handle the same. I cut the springs along time ago on my 4 cylinder mustang and it sat too low but the handling didn't change all that much . 4 cyl. mustangs don't handle too well anyway.
also buy a rear sway bar, it'll make your car handle 10x better....you can just pick up an old GT rear sway bar and it'll work fine
